Nicholas has always been making in one form or another. This led him to study a multitude of materials and processes. Finding an aptitude for woodturning using reclaimed, seasoned and green wood he became concerned about the sustainability and provenance of his materials and consciously obtains most of his wood from local Essex and Suffolk sources.
Since graduating Nicholas has sought to expand his skills by turning a variety of woods and forms that allow the material's visual and tactile qualities to be appreciated, with emphasis on functionality and aesthetics over the long term. Nicholas successfully applied for the 2015 Cuckoo Farm Studios Graduate Award. Since joining the supportive community at CFS he has felt confident to push both his wooden forms embracing the unique character features in the woods he turns.
Nicholas is a Member of the Heritage Craft Association, Suffolk Craft Society (SCS), Society of Designer Craftsmen (SDC), Colchester Art Society (CAS), Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB) and Colchester Woodturners Club & Suffolk, Essex, Cambridge Boarders (SECB or Yeldham) Woodturning Clubs. He has sold work, fulfilled commissions and exhibited in London and galleries & shops in and around Colchester, Wivenhoe, Long Melford, Bury St Edmunds and Birmingham.
